Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging modality, where interiors of the body are mapped by first transmitting sound waves into the body and then using the echoes to display internal structures.

A major technology driver is 3D imaging, and for this to become a reality a lot of novel sensor and microelectronics technology is integrated directly into the ultrasound probe. This presentation will aim at the basics of developing these probes, as well as highlighting the challenges involved.
