Digitalization for a Sustainable Future

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Digitalization for a Sustainable Future’.
Digitalization for a sustainable future is about improving the state and outcomes for humanity through the design, implementation and maintenance of actionable information systems. Our Global Society exists upon a partially closed finite resource planet of complex interacting systems where materials and energy are finite and should be applied in the most efficient way to both optimize the sustainability of the system and to minimise inefficiencies that can otherwise manifest as wastage and pollution.
Systems and Markets that fall within the scope of the conference include Health and Wellness, Veterinary, Food and Agriculture, Aquaculture, Process and Chemical Industries, Oil and Gas, Shipping, Preserving and Maintaining.

The thesis at the heart of the conference is that though markets and applications are unique in their details, the workflow of data into actionable information is generic.

In order to improve any system the first step is to measure the system, the second step is to look at the data and convert it into information, the third step is to implement the lessons learnt, and the fourth step is to measure the improvement. The process of improvement is constant and so the four generic steps are in fact cyclic and continuous, especially as systems are not static but rather dynamic and so the system has to be constantly measured and optimized. Input and Outputs may also be variables and so setpoints and thresholds can be variables in a truly dynamic system.

The need to improve systems starts with the capture of the state of the system in real-time/near-time in a discrete, semi-continuous or continuous manner. This capture of the system state can be achieved through s through transducers and sensors. Some of the most valuable real-world data is intrinsically analogue be it, temperature, humidity, pressure, vibration, mass, visual, chemical analytes, pathogens etc. and so the start of the journey is the measurement of these analogue signals and their conversion into digital signals, These signals can be processed on the Edge or on the Cloud, though a hybrid of partial Cloud and partial Edge captures most applications. The conversion of signal into information can be manual, semi-manual, semi-automated or automated, though AI decision systems is the most scalable strategy.  The implementation of the information back into the system to improve outcomes is captured within concepts such as IoT and Industry 4.0

The Summit is a mix of Entrepreneurs, Industrialists, Academics, NGOs, Investors and the Government, and is curated to ensure the cross-fertilization of ideas and resources to create genuine solutions.
